Blood purification by removing pathogenic substances from the serum

Modern extracorporeal blood purification procedures in VitaSangius therapy have been proven to improve metabolism, the immune system, organ function and thus quality of life. They are an effective tool on the path to regeneration and recovery.

Blood purification procedures are used for therapeutic purposes. In the case of so-called “elimination”, elimination then takes place via the liver and kidneys, which can lead to temporary or permanent stress on the organ systems. Extracorporeal blood purification offers the advantage of blood purification combined with additional detoxification of the liver and kidneys.

The word apheresis comes from the Greek and means “to separate” or “to take away”. The term apheresis covers various plasma treatment procedures. In a first step, solid components (blood cells) are separated from the plasma. The plasma obtained in this way is then passed through specific filters/adsorbers to remove unwanted substances.

Plasmapheresis is one of the modern extracorporeal blood purification procedures.

Plasmapheresis is an effective and established treatment method, e.g. for severe lipometabolic disorders and certain immunological clinical pictures in rheumatology and neurology.

A distinction is made between cascade filtration and immunoadsorption.

DFPP

doublefiltrationplasma pheresis): Double filtration plasmapheresis is a so-called cascade filtration. It is not a whole blood procedure and is not volume-neutral. This blood purification procedure is used for lipometabolic disorders, toxins, inflammatory processes and removal of excessive immunoglobulins (autoantibodies).

DFPP is one of the modern plasmapheresis therapies. This procedure can be used to remove lipoproteins, triglycerides, fibrinogen, inflammatory substances and autoantibodies.

Indications for therapeutic plasmapheresis:

Cascade filtration

In cascade filtration (e.g. double filtration plasmapheresis = DFPP), the blood plasma is separated from the blood cells in a first step. The plasma obtained in this way is passed through a second filter.

The special pore size and the so-called convection pressure ensure that only certain substances are filtered out and substances that are important for the body (e.g. albumins) are retained. The result is an “eluate”, comparable to the “filtrate” in dialysis. The purified plasma is returned to the bloodstream. Cascade filtration is not a whole blood procedure, as only the serum is purified and it is also not volume-neutral, as the fluid removed must be returned to the body (infusion solutions).

Immunoadsorption

In immunoadsorption, the blood plasma is also separated from the blood cells in a first step. The plasma obtained in this way is passed through an immunoadsorber.

In this adsorber, for example, antibodies and/or immune complexes are bound by immunological or physicochemical adsorption. The purified plasma is then returned to the bloodstream.

Immunoadsorption is not a whole blood procedure, but it is volume-neutral.

Plasmapheresis costs

The information on your therapy requests, by telephone or e-mail, is free of charge.

Our consultations in the practice and the therapies are private medical services . The costs incurred will be charged according to Fee schedule for physicians (GOÄ), if available. This also includes the treatment of the plasmapheresis method. In this cost plan the individual items are listed transparently and comprehensibly so that you can understand them and, if necessary, use them as a template for the health insurance company by recognizing the medical necessity.

Before the therapies discussed in the initial consultation, we will conclude a treatment contract and a binding fee agreement with you.

As a precautionary measure, we would like to point out that even if the GOÄ figures are correctly shown on cost plans or invoices for health insurance companies, insurance companies or subsidy offices, the costs will not be covered in every case or for every service.

The treatment costs incurred must be paid regardless of whether the costs are covered in full or in part by health insurance funds, insurance companies or benefits offices.

FAQ & costs

As we carry out various blood purification procedures, a precise diagnosis/diagnosis is essential in order to find the right procedure for you.

Plasmapheresis is an extracorporeal, minimally invasive procedure. These therapies are effective but also strenuous, which is why an accompanying person should always be present.

Since plasmapheresis does not require anesthesia, you do not need to be fasting. Eat as usual and make sure you drink enough fluids.

As it is a minimally invasive procedure, apheresis requires puncturing with cannulas. This puncture causes minimal short-term pain, which can be minimized with local anaesthetic and/or intravenous pain therapy. Apheresis procedures are painless.

On the day of plasmapheresis and the following 3 days, physical exertion should be avoided as far as possible and sufficient fluid intake should be ensured

The duration of treatment is normally 2 to 3 hours.

No follow-up treatment is normally necessary the day after plasmapheresis. A wound check of the puncture site is only necessary if a Sheldon catheter was required for the apheresis. Thereafter, no further treatment is normally required for the minimally invasive procedure.

Depending on the diagnosis, indication and procedure, between 1 and 3 apheresis sessions are required.
