Blood sampling
You are in a comfortable environment.
Your blood is passed extracorporeally through special filters via an access in the arm vein.
Filtration and Cleaning
The state-of-the-art filters specifically remove pro-inflammatory substances, disease-causing autoantibodies, inflammatory mediators and circulating pollutants and toxins.
Return of the purified blood
The purified blood is gently returned to your bloodstream.
The aim is to support the natural balance of your body and to achieve the desired therapeutic effect.
Follow-up treatment and monitoring
The entire procedure usually takes two to three hours and is performed on an outpatient basis.

Low-risk and effective
Extracorporeal blood purification procedures are technically complex, but minimally invasive and low-risk. They protect liver and kidney function, while filtering toxic substances from the blood at the same time.

VitaSangius also offers the combination of blood purification with hyperthermia (heat treatment) and hyperoxygenation (increased oxygen supply) to enhance the effects.
What is plasmapheresis or apheresis?
The word apheresis comes from the Greek and means “to separate” or “to take away”. The term apheresis covers various plasma treatment procedures. In a first step, solid components (blood cells) are separated from the plasma. The plasma obtained in this way is then passed through specific filters/adsorbers to remove unwanted substances.
Plasmapheresis and thus also double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) is an effective and established treatment method, e.g. for severe lipometabolic disorders and certain immunological clinical pictures in rheumatology and neurology. It is not a conventional blood washing or plasma exchange method, nor is dialysis, in which urinary substances are filtered out.
During apheresis, the cellular components of the blood are separated from the liquid part, the plasma, and the plasma is then purified. Harmful substances are removed, while essential and healthy components of the blood remain essentially untouched.
This includes vital electrolytes, proteins, nutrients and antibodies. The use of our specially developed filters ensures that only pathogenic contamination is removed during the treatment. This makes the treatment particularly gentle and generally very well tolerated.
A distinction is made between cascade filtration and immunoadsorption.
The latter is not used in Vitasangius.
What is filtered out of the blood with plasmapheresis or apheresis?
VitaSangius plasmapheresis specifically removes disease-causing autoantibodies, inflammatory mediators and circulating pollutants from the blood. This can relieve the overtaxed immune system, improve microcirculation and thus alleviate symptoms such as persistent fatigue, concentration disorders, dizziness and muscle and joint pain.
A variety of harmful substances are removed, including:

What does double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) / cascade filtration stand for?
Double filtration plasmapheresis (DFPP) as a form of cascade filtration is an advanced method for the targeted purification of blood. In the first step, the blood plasma is separated from the blood cells. The plasma is then passed through a second filter, whose special pore size and convection pressure ensure that only undesirable substances such as excess immunoglobulins, toxins or fats are filtered out. At the same time, important components for the body, such as albumins, are retained. The purified plasma is then reunited with the blood cells and returned to the bloodstream.
In comparison, cascade filtration is not a whole blood procedure, as only the plasma is purified. It is also not volume-neutral, as the removed fluid must be replaced using infusion solutions.
Areas of application for DFPP
Double filtration plasmapheresis is frequently used for lipid metabolism disorders, inflammatory processes and to remove toxins or excessive immunoglobulins (autoantibodies). This highly precise procedure enables effective and gentle support of the body in various health challenges.
How long does a treatment take?
The average treatment time is two to three hours and varies depending on body weight and height, as the machine automatically adjusts the optimum flow rate.
How many treatments are recommended?
Depending on the diagnosis and personal goals, we generally recommend one to three treatments. The number of sessions depends on your individual state of health and your therapy goals.
A basic cycle of two treatments within a week has proven to be particularly effective.
For more comprehensive needs, such as targeted heavy metal elimination or more complex clinical pictures, a third or even fourth treatment at intervals of 6 to 7 weeks may be advisable.

Is it possible to pay in installments?

Please note that the costs are not always covered by health insurance companies, even if the treatment is medically necessary. Our transparent cost model complies with the scale of fees for doctors (GOÄ) and is comprehensible for you. This also makes it easier for you to submit a claim to your health insurance company.
Is apheresis possible in children?
Yes, under certain circumstances, blood cleansing (e.g. heavy metal contamination, autoimmune diseases or long Covid) can also be useful for children. We pay particular attention to a gentle, individually tailored approach. A minimum weight of 28 kg is required.

What is immunoadsorption
The immunoadsorption procedure is rarely used at VitaSangius, as our focus is on specifically treating and eliminating the causes of immunological dysregulation.
Immunoadsorption is another method of blood purification in which antibodies and immune complexes are removed from the blood plasma. Here too, the plasma is separated from the blood cells and passed through an immune adsorber, which binds the unwanted substances.
In this adsorber, for example, antibodies and/or immune complexes are bound by immunological or physicochemical adsorption. The purified plasma is then returned to the bloodstream. Immunoadsorption is not a whole blood procedure, but is volume-neutral.
However, VitaSangius does not use this method, as we have specialized in other, more effective processes such as cascade filtration.
